Best Home Services Company History

BHS was founded in 1992 by Perry J. Hodges and his wife, Marilyn. In January of 1972, shortly before his 17th birthday, Perry joined the U.S. Navy and served his country in the Vietnam War. While being stationed in Pearl Harbor on a destroyer ship, Perry became an electrician. After finishing his naval service, he returned home to California, married his sweetheart Marilyn, and began working in the residential and commercial electrical trade.

In 1977, he became one of the youngest electrical contractors in the State of California. In the early 1990s, Perry and Marilyn decided a fresh start was in order for them and their two sons. So, in 1992, they found a small electrical business in Florida whose owner wanted to retire. After several months, arrangements were made, the house in California was sold, the moving truck was loaded, and the Hodges family arrived in sunny Bonita Springs, FL.

Our company was off to a bright start as Best Electric in 1992. For the first few years, Perry and a small crew of electricians worked in the field performing new construction jobs while Marilyn oversaw the office needs of our business.

By 1996, Best Electric was a well-established company, employing over 45 people and expanding service to include all of Collier, Lee, and Charlotte Counties. In 1997, we decided to shift our company’s focus from new home construction to providing residential and commercial services. We were well on our way toward becoming the best local electricians in Southwest Florida.

At the end of 2011, we also added plumbing to our list of specialties and changed our name to BHS. This decision was made to align with our new business mission: to offer our customers the very best in all home services. Today, our company remains as committed to providing superior customer service as it was when we started. In a world of big-box marketing and multi-chain franchises, we understand that nobody cares more about you than family. That’s why our company – and our family – takes care of other Florida families by providing superior HVAC services, plumbing, electrical work, and more.

Our intentions remain the same: to be the company Southwest Florida residents trust to do the best job of helping them fix and maintain the air conditioning, heating, electric, and plumbing in their homes and businesses. BHS was voted the “best air conditioning and electrical business” in all of Southwest Florida by Ft. Myers News-Press readers in 2008, 2009, and 2010. Talk about living up to our company name!
